Changes to LinkedIn

Late in 2015, LinkedIn unveiled a new design for their mobile app, named Voyager, which was simpler and less cluttered – offering actionable experiences. In order to increase consistency between the platforms, LinkedIn recently redesigned the desktop version look more like their smartphone app. Finding new contacts, interacting with connections, and writing posts on LinkedIn is now easier to do. All this enhance the business relationships and potential marketing opportunities for your organization.

To bring LinkedIn’s desktop experience more in line with its mobile app, the home page is streamlined and includes a feed that brings up more relevant information. The website also promises to be more responsive and easier to navigate, with better search features.

Maximizing the Usefulness of LinkedIn

As someone looking at your profile, LinkedIn has made a few changes to the About Me section. You will need to update your background photo size to 1536 x 768 pixels. Bear in mind that people viewing your profile will only see the first two lines of your Summary section, so make them count.

There is a greater emphasis on the Skills section now. A new section called Accomplishments has been included. This is where you can share projects, courses, publications, awards, and patents you have earned.

Jobs, companies, groups, and schools can be sought from the search page, with filters according to connection level (first, second, or third), locations, companies, industries, non-profit, language, and schools.

Messaging has also changed, and with the input of Microsoft, LinkedIn is looking at other ways to make its messaging more intuitive with new contextual messaging features that make it easier to find the right person.
