Social Selling and Posting Frequency: Is There a Recipe for Success?

One of the most common questions asked by sales teams that are just getting started with an approach to social selling is “how often should I be posting on social media?” While there are certainly many websites out there that will provide you with an average figure, the real truth of the matter is that there is no such thing as a recipe for success when it comes to social selling and posting frequency.

Is There Such a Thing as “Too Often”?

If you take a look at many of the most followed brands on social media, you will instantly notice that many of their posting strategies are quite different indeed. For example, Nike has 88 million followers on Instagram. They are one of the brands that tend to post just a handful of times a month and yet are still able to garner an impressive amount of engagement. Most of their posts include video content and receive at least between 500 and 1 000 comments, and often millions of views.

National Geographic, on the other hand, has 110 million followers and usually posts multiple times a day. They receive similar amounts of engagement – thousands of comments, hundreds of thousands of likes and millions of views.

In short, one approach definitely does not fit all!

How to Find Your ‘Sweet Spot’

While trial-and-error is always a great way to ascertain just how often you should be posting, another way to go about it is to take a look at a few of your competitors’ social media pages and take note of how often they are posting and how much engagement they are generating as a result.
